SilkyGirl Matte Fever Lip Color Balms – Review, Photos & Swatches (Video)

My lip collection is composed of mainly three things: lipsticks (tubes), lip creams (matte, satin and gloss) and lip crayons. If you’re a follower of my blog, you’ll know that I have penchant for chubby lip crayons. I just lah-ove collecting them. They’re so convenient and easy to use. I can always stash a few in my bag and then I’m good to go. That’s why when I got these in the mail, you could only imagine how excited I was to try them.

If you own the SilkyGirl Moisture Boost Lip Color Balms, then the packaging of this one is nothing new. Similar to the Moisture Boost line, this line’s packaging is fairly simple and direct to the point. Matte Fever comes in a matte, grey chubby retractable pen/tube with the shade of the lippie indicated at the bottom of the product.

SilkyGirl Matte Fever Lipcolor Balms come in 9 shades according to their website. I am not sure if we have the entire collection here in our country but they sent me four shades so far, ranging from pinks to reds. Unfortunately, they don’t have a lot of nude/MLBB/brown shades.

02 DESIRE

Electric coral shade

Desire is a bright, electric coral shade perfect for summer. You know that I’m not a fan of coral lippies but for some reason I’m head over heals with this one. I love how this shade can brighten up any look.

04 SIREN

Perfect blue-toned red

Siren is a beautiful blue-toned red perfect for night outs. Because of its crayon tip, it’s a lot more forgiving in terms of application.

05 PASSION

Bubblegum pink

Passion is a bright bubblegum pink that reminds me of Mac’s Candy Yum Yum.  Usually, these types of shades tend to be patchy but this one isn’t. This one glides on smoothly and it’s very opaque.

06 CHARM

Pinkish-red shade

Charm is a beautiful tomato, reddish-pink shade that is surprisingly more muted and wearable than Desire.

Despite its matte formula, it’s definitely non-drying and it glides on really smoothly. All of the shades are very pigmented and they have a rich color payoff. All of them can cover my lips with just a single swipe.

Compared to the Moisture Boost Lip Color Balms, these lasted on me for up to four hours, then it stained my lips afterwards. I didn’t experience any dryness while I had this on my lips nor did it feather, chap or bleed. All four shades performed really well, I must say. I’m very impressed.

If you’re not into scented makeup, then you’re not going to like this line. Compared to Moisture Boost that has a sweet, waxy yet really faint scent, this one has a strong vanilla scent that is quite noticeable. I personally don’t mind because scent isn’t really something that bothers me. However, if you already own Moisture Boost and you plan on expanding your collection by adding these, then you might want to take these things into consideration.

Overall, I really like the Matte Fever line. It’s definitely for those who are not into the whole matte liquid lipstick trend. It’s not as drying, it’s very easy to apply and it’s a lot more convenient. Just like the Moisture Boost line, I wish they can come up with more colors, preferably MLBBs, browns and nudes because majority of the colors that they came up with are really bold and loud.

I haven’t been into loud colors lately but for this I’ll definitely make an exception. Ever since I got this, I have been wearing 02 Desire and 06 Charm. They’re the ones that I wear if I want to brighten up my look. Those are also the two that I wore when I went out of town with my friends.

How about you? What’s your favorite among all four?
