Budget Beauty Series: Fashion 21 All Day Matte Lipsticks – Review, Photos & Swatches
I first heard about the brand Fashion 21 when I was in college. I loved their compact foundations and their eyeshadow palettes. Fashion 21 will always remind me of those days when I was really budgeting my money but I still wanted to have something on my kikay kit and make myself a bit more presentable than usual. I first heard of their All Day Matte Lipsticks when I was starting out as a beauty blogger. I started out with the shade Russet. That shade was da bomb! I loved it! I don’t know where that lippie is now, tbh. But srsly though, Fashion 21’s All Day Matte Lipsticks aren’t hyped just because. Let me tell you why
One swipe of this matte lipstick gives full, intensely colored, and lasting coverage to your lips. And it doesn’t just look good—the formula is light on the lips and does not dry them out. The All-Day Matte Lipstick comes in 15 brownish, reddish, and pinkish shades that fit any mood for any event, any day and night.

Fashion 21 All Day Matte Lipsticks come in a plastic bullet tube with a gunmetal, glossy finish. I love how edgy and classy it looks like at the same time. It’s something that you wont be too shy to pull out from your kikay kit during touch ups. Yes, their packaging is very similar to MAC, but compared to MAC though, Fashion 21 only has this type of packaging for this particular line. Their packaging varies according to the type/finish of their lipstick.
As mentioned, Fashion 21 All Day Matte Lipsticks comes in 15 shades mostly reds, pinkish, plums and browns. I have 6 of their red shades, and I know most of you will say that they’re kinda similar to each other. I know, it does look like that. The camera’s not giving them much justice, so please bear with me as I try my hardest to accurately describe each of these shades for you. Let’s begin
All Day Matte Lipsticks have a bit of a drier formula. Some makeup junkies, or newbies who have never encountered this lipstick, may find difficulty in applying these because (a) it’s a bit waxy and (b) there will be some tugging. I suggest you apply a really thin layer of lip balm beforehand so you can at least make the lipstick application smoother.
Red shade with a hint of coral. Perfect for those who aren’t ready to wear mid-tone reds yet
Deep, cool-toned red
Lighter shade with a hint of pink
This is something that me in 2013 would really love. Back then, I was so in love with coral shades. Coral lipstick, coral blush, eyeshadow. Name it, lol. (well, maybe except eyeliner :P). Bottom line is, if you’re into coral shades, then this is definitely something that you would want get. Especially during summer!
Blossom is definitely beautiful and it’s something that I know a lot of women would totally wear. It’s deeper than your usual red and it definitely makes a statement! Oh and as usual, it makes your teeth look whiter too!
Rosy is ideal for those who are just starting out with reds or for those who still would like to wear red lippies in the day time but don’t want all the attention in their lips.
Beautiful red shade with a hint of cherry in the mix.
Warm-toned/Orangey red shade
Classic, old school matte red.
I love how this lipstick makes my lips look. The subtle shine in the middle makes it even better!
You pretties know that I’m not a fan of warm-toned reds but this is soo pretty, it’s definitely one of the most opaque in the bunch. Oh! And it’s also perfect for summer!
If you just want a point-blank, basic matte red shade, then go for this one. It’s a classic red shade that never goes out of style.
These lipsticks offer the nicest pigmentation and color payoff. In terms of coverage, you will need at least 2-3 swipes in order for the shade to cover your entire lips, especially if your lips are heavily pigmented. These lippies are also very lightweight. BUT I don’t see this as a full-on matte lipstick. I would say more of a soft/demi-matte.
Longevity-wise, I find that these lippies last on me for nearly 4-5 hours provided I don’t eat oily foods. It did leave a nice stain on my lips though. These never bled on me as well. It’s not hydrating but I don’t find them drying on my lips either.
Further, since the formula/texture is a bit dry, it emphasized all of the lines and chaps of my lips so you really need to exfoliate and apply some lip balm before hand. Otherwise, it wont be pretty.
Another thing that I like about this lipstick is that they’re fragrance-free so if you hate those heavily scented lipsticks then you found your match.
Overall, I really like Fashion 21’s All Day Matte Lipsticks. I love this particular line and I wish that they can expand more in terms of color selections. More nudes! More browns! More! More! MOOORRREEEE! My favorite shades by the way are: Blossom and Passion. And if you ask me to pick just one, then it’ll have to be Blossom.
I know it’s pretty hard to distinguish which is which, given that they’re all reds and they only vary in, well.. tones? But still, even though we’re always told that a girl should always have a red lipstick, one can always ask.. “which red?”. This review is a perfect example/answer for that question.
