Matte in Detail Liquid Lipsticks - Review, Photos & Swatches
Matte lips are so in right now, especially matte liquid lipsticks that’s why it’s no surprise that a lot of brands are coming up with their own versions. I’ve tried a lot of them but one has caught my attention recently. A co-beauty Youtuber, Mhean of The Perfect Cat Eye, did a full review about this product and I was shocked to find out that it was a local brand and they’re hella cheap. I went to their website and ordered my own set (they offer tons of promos btw) and anxiously waited for my order to arrive. Anyway, here are my thoughts about these lippies.

The packaging is very simple, the liquid lipstick is housed in clear, small squared tube with a small doe-foot applicator good enough to spread the product evenly, even at the corner of your lips. With regard to the shades, what you see is what you get. The color that you see on the tube perfectly describes the shade that you’ll be getting when you apply it on to your lips.

Let’s move on to the shades..

D1/Samantha – is a warm, dark yet beautiful 90’s brown shade. It reminds me of Colourpop’s Limbo but this one’s a bit darker than that. According to Cosmetix United’s Facebook account, this is their dupe of Kylie Cosmetics’ True Brown K (Click here to view their dupe list).

D2/Dimple – is a very “Nicky Minaj/Barbie” type of shade. It’s a really bright pink that will definitely catch attention anywhere you go. No, srsly. I’ve worn these types of shades so I know. Haha. It’s good for those with fair skin and nice to wear during Spring & Summer.

D3/Rox – is a beautiful periwinkle shade. I love the shade because I don’t have any lipstick similar to this lip color. It’s very blue-based and more on the edgy side.

D6/Nash – This is a beautiful peachy shade very suitable for summer. I’m not really into peachy shades and most of you know that by now, because they tend to wash me out. But this doesn’t. I find that this shade makes me look more awake and youthful the more I wear it.

D7/Naima – is a beautiful magenta/violet-ish shade that is very appropriate for summer as well. It’s a lot more subtle than Rox and a bit more common. If you like pink or purple shades but you feel that Dimple (D2) and Rox (D3) are too loud for you, then you might like this one.

D8/Asia – is a beautiful warm, fire engine red. It’s not really the type of red that I’m used to but this is one’s not too warm. It’s very wearable too and it definitely makes a statement when worn.

D9/Jhen – is a classic peachy-nude shade. Reminds me of Maybelline Velvet Matte’s Mat 12 only this one’s really matte. It’s your everyday color and I like how it brightens up my face. I also love pairing it with a heavy eye makeup look. Definitely a keeper.

D10/Rhea – is my favorite shade. This reminds me of Colourpop’s Trap only Trap is a bit more mauvey and Trap oxidizes. This is my kind of nude actually. I prefer mauvey-nude shades and when I first applied this onto my lips, I fell in love immediately. Also per Cosmetix Unlimited, this is a dupe of Kylie’s Dolce K.

Now that we’re done with the shades, let’s move on to their application, formula, etc.

Most of these lip creams, especially the nude shades, are very easy to apply. I don’t need the extra effort to even them out. They glide smoothly and most of them are pretty opaque. Also, most of them didn’t emphasize the dry parts of my lips.

I do have to mention that the brighter/lighter shades (D2/Dimple, D3/Rox and D6/Nash) are quite harder to apply, especially Dimple. I REALLY, really had a hard time applying this shade. Dimple was really patchy and it took me three layers to properly even it out. I also needed to wait first for the product to dry before I apply the second & third layer. Dimple was very streaky and hard to work with. It also emphasized all of the dry parts of my lips. I wish it had a nicer formula. Rox and Nash were also a bit patchy but still workable. In the end, you still get a nicer result with these two shades and my dry lips weren’t as visible compared to Dimple.

What I do love most about these liquid lipsticks is that they are not as drying compared to the other liquid lipsticks that I have tried (i.e. Colourpop). Well, they’re not hydrating either, but at the end of the day, with some of the shades that I’ve used so far, I don’t see my lips chapped and crusty even if I didn’t use a lip balm beforehand.

Their texture/consistency reminds me of L.A. Splash only the former’s shades are a bit more opaque. This one also lasted on me for more or less four to six hours. Typically, with these types of matte liquid lipsticks, they first fade from the inside. I didn’t have any problems with this one when it comes to retouching.

Overall, I still recommend this to those who would like to try matte liquid lipsticks but would like a cheaper alternative. My favorite shades are D1, D9 and D10. I also fancy the shades D3 and D8. I believe they offer 9 shades in total. I didn’t get ‘Sabrina’ which I wish I did, but oh well…

Ahhh, finally a detailed review (and almost complete swatches) of these lippies. I really love your flat lays! I read somewhere that Jhen is pretty similar to LA Girl’s Matte Pigment Gloss in Fleur. I have Fleur but it’s a bit tacky when you don’t use a lipliner, which sucks because I really love the color. Are these lippies tacky? I’ve been very much into liquid lipsticks lately but I haven’t splurged on them yet and this brand looks like it would be worth it. This brand went to one of our school fairs and they gave away free lippies, but I wasn’t around then! Hoping to try Rhea as well but I’m afraid it would look too stone-y (does this make sense) on me.
