Preview X Happy Skin Shut Up & Kiss Me Moisturizing Matte Lippies – Review, Photos & Swatches
If you have been following my blog for some time, you will know that lip crayons are my absolute weakness. I love how convenient they are and most of them are not only moisturizing but also pigmented. Depending on the shade, you can just slap them right on to your lips and put in in your handbag, then you’re good to go. That’s why I’ve always liked Happy Skin lippies. The price may be a bit steeper than other drugstore brands, but the color payoff and the quality is very comparable with my Mac lippies.
When I got a newsletter from Happy Skin telling that they’ll be launching their first matte lippies in collaboration with Preview Magazine, I got totally excited. I’m subscribed to a ton of online shops and usually I don’t get excited “that much” but that night I totally freaked. I got this from Zalora the following week at Php999. There were some shipping delays which were totally understandable but I just couldn’t contain my excitement. I loved it!
Product Claims/Description from Happy Skin Cosmetics:
Preview Magazine and Happy Skin celebrate 20 years of being #imaPreviewgirl with these limited edition matte lippies. Each Shut Up & Kiss Me Moisturizing Matte Lippie contains Happy Skin’s signature shea butter and collagen combo paired with powerful Cupuacu Butter, which offers unrivaled hydration, healing, and improved elasticity. Presented in two pigments that best represent the Preview girl – timeless red and classic nude – you can wear them alone or layer them together, like the true fashionista that you are.
The collection came in cardboard, book-like packaging. Reminded me of those coin banks I used to own in the 90s. But this one opens up, revealing the lippies, and when you lift up the tray, you can use the box to store your little trinkets. I have it in my dresser near my perfumes, though. It looks pretty there (love the gold accent too!). The matte lippies are very much like the other Happy Skin lippie sticks, only that they have a matte finish and they have these cute gold accents, which serves as the knobs that you use to twist the product up or down.
Hot Stuff is more of a deep, vamp-y, wine-ish red color. I lah-ove this shade! I’ve worn this a ton already and mind you, I don’t wear red lippies during this time of the year, but I didn’t care. This shade is fab! If you’re not into wearing really dark and vampy colors this might throw you off but I think this suits a lot of skin tones and a lot of people can pull this off.
Too Cool is a peachy more on the neutral shade of nude. I love nude lippies but this makes me look anemic. The shade is definitely trendy which is I guess is why it’s in this collection. Perhaps because of the ‘Fashion’ side of the collaboration, but it’s definitely not as wearable. I would wear this on top of a darker nude lip pencil, maybe, or mix it with other lipsticks. But def not on it’s own.
I understand that these are matte lippies but they don’t feel or look matte especially when swatched. They have this slight sheen which is barely noticeable. But I think it’s also what makes these lippies really moisturizing. They’re very lightweight despite the color payoff (which is superb, if I may say so myself) and I didn’t experience any drying or chapping while I was using it. Both shades are extremely opaque & pigmented it can definitely cover an area of your lip with a single swipe.
I never had any problems applying these lippies, even the darker shade. But if you want to be thorough you might want to have a lip brush handy. I have braces on my lower lip and sometimes it gives me problems so applying darker shades such as ‘Hot Stuff’ can be quite tricky. But, in general, these lippies are just like the regular Happy Skin lippie sticks in terms of application. They’re as convenient as those. As for longevity, these babies lasted on me for 4-5 hours with minimal fading, without bleeding. ‘Hot Stuff’ also stained my lips after it has completely faded which I guess is a plus if you’re into that sort of thing.
These babies doesn’t smell anything. It also doesn’t have that minty scent/sensation that you usually get in common lip crayons. This is actually typical to Happy Skin Lippie Sticks. They don’t have a scent or taste, which I found a bit odd when it was my first time trying out the brand. But I got used to it. Eeh

Overall, I’ve been really loving these lippies. Though I can’t use ‘Too Cool’ on it’s own, I can definitely do something about it with my arsenal of lip products (hehe). I’m still head over heels with this collection. I really love the idea and I wish they can come up with more shades. I love the idea that a local brand is doing something new every time it’s indeed very inspiring!
