Weekly Raves #6: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

Hi loves! Before I proceed with this review, I just wanna thank you for being ever so supportive. I’ve been getting messages in my social media that I’ve been inspiring you with my videos & blogs and that’s just the sweetest thing ever. You guys inspire me to blog and I wont be here without you, so THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Now before I get totally emotional, let us now proceed with my weekly raves #6: the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette.

Product Description/Claims according to Hourglass Cosmetics

Create your perfect light with this palette featuring three shades of Ambient Lighting Powder. Each of the high-tech, soft-focus finishing powders recreates an exquisitely flattering light source. The powders can be applied individually or layered to imbue skin with a multidimensional glow.

Honestly, even up to this moment, I’m not really sure about reviewing this product. It’s because most people have different ways of using this palette. As mentioned in the product’s description, each shade can be used either individually or all together, and some use it depending on their shade. As for me, I use all of them in a single look, one shade for a specific area of my face then I layer them all together. I know it’s kinda confusing, but I’ll explain later.

This palette has a simple, yet elegant, mirrored packaging. It has a decent-sized mirror but I still find it pretty useless since horizontal mirrors are only effective if you’re going to do your eye makeup. My issue towards Hourglass packaging as always is that, despite that it’s a high end product, their compacts do not include a pouch for protection. That pouch can protect your palette from scratches, dust or from breakage (in case you’re a klutz like me).

This product has the same texture as their blushes (click here to check out my review of one of their blushes) only each shade has a different finish from the other. This one is a bit powdery though. I’m not sure if it’s because of the brushes that I use but sometimes I find myself seeing a lot of excess product at the packaging and at my dressing table. I also noticed a hint of scent but it’s not as noticeable compared to their blushes.

Now as for the shades and how I use it…

Dim Light, per the website is a neutral peach beige powder that blurs imperfections and highlights a radiant complexion with the perfect balance of warm and cool tones. I use it as my finishing powder. It just gives me that beautiful “lit-from-within-glow”. I also think that it lives up to its claims that it blurs out imperfections.

Weekly Raves #6: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

Incandescent Light, per the website is an opalescent pearl powder that brightens the complexion with a celestial glow. It is an exclusive shade that you can only find here in this palette, and I believe that it is meant for highlighting. I love this shade because it’s not quite “metallic-y” compared to my other highlighters. I use this at the high points of my cheeks, down the bridge of my nose, and in my cupid’s bow. It’s not an overly-exaggerated highlighter and those people with oily skin will surely appreciate this highlighter as well.

Radiant Light, per the website, is a sun-kissed golden beige that enhances the overall complexion with believable, subtle warmth, and also extends a summer glow.. I use this on top of my contour. It gives me that beautiful warm glow but it doesn’t give my matte contour a shimmery finish that makes it look like “why not just use a shimmery bronzer to contour, duh?”. It just makes the contour blending a bit more flawless, if that makes any sense.

Weekly Raves #6: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

So those are my thoughts regarding this product. I know it’s kinda confusing which is why I was on the fence about reviewing this but if you have questions, feel free to ask. Like I said, I love this product to bits and I can’t get enough of it. I just can’t use it every time though because it’s expensive.

• Product Name | Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette
• Shade | Radiant Light, Incandescent Light & Dim Light • Price | Php 3, 200
• Avalability | Makeovershop @ Instagram

Now as for recommendations or if you’re asking me if I recommend this palette, uhm.. sure, if you really want it then go for it. Just make sure that you think about it really because it is indeed an investment, and Php 3, 200 is no joke. Some people I know loved this, and some people hated it without thinking twice. Read lots of reviews. Just remember that you can go with your makeup routine without this one.

Anyway, how about you? What do you think about this product? Do you have questions about this palette? Let me know.

  • Ang hirap kasi this product is so polarizing! When I went on vacation earlier this year, I was able to swatch the Ambient singles and ang layo nung expectations ko. I thought I’d look good in one shade, pero another shade totally rocked! So yun. Nakakatakot gustuhin ‘to huhu pero INGGETTTTT

    • Hahaha.. I know! Mahal ren kase yung singles kaya di ko yun binili nung una, that’s why I was so happy when they brought back this palette. Mahirap gustohin tong product neto, ang mahal, lol

  • its kinda pricey but i think it worth the price…
The 1st look is very nice, i really like the simple look and i love the lipstick you used on the first look

    • I just got the first photo from my archives. You can find that in my blush review. Haha. I think I used the Happy Skin lippie in ‘The Morning After’

  • I also love this for that glow esp. dim light.

    • Me too! Love Dim Light!

  • abegaill villacruz

It’s super expensive! Haha. We can buy 2-3 cosmetics na from that. It’s kinda enticing to buy and it really make you pretty, but huhu. I would rather buy contouring palettes instead. And I’m still not sure if that would fit me well. And yeah, the singles are even more pricey than the palette.

    • I agree. If you’re not sure and you’re into other stuff, then don’t invest muna. Make sure that you’re going to love it because 3200 is no joke

  • Teri

Uu nga noh.. XD unless its a eyeshadow para useful yung mirror.

Wala akong masyadong alam sa cosmetics, but then it’s not that bad to read reviews about them. I have a round face so I wanted to know how to contour.. so sakto lang.. (but I don’t have products yet to do that)

and then.. i was shocked at the price XD

    • Contour muna siguro bago to. hehe

  • wow.. this palette is so pretty! Perfect for an everday makeup!

  • Aegeane Mikka Brioso

The incandescent light shade emphasizes your lips, nose and eyes pretty well. I am also doing that trick, pero dun lang ako sa mura na highlighter. Pero what’s good dito, it looks very natural, and ang ganda ng glow na binibigay niya sa face As for the dim light, pwede kaya siyang ilagay sa outside corner ng eyes? Para medyo smokey tingnan ang eyes sana. I do that before, kaso nagmukha akong zombie. Too dark kasi yung nagamit ko na brownish goldish na color. Haha. Hmm, may I ask kung san galing yung brand na ito? and only sa IG lang talaga? First time ko kasi marinig, and it looks nice to use kaso ang pricey. Hoho. And you look so pretty Ms. yette, kinis ng face ganda

    • I think you can do that too. I think there are other online resellers who carries this product but I prefer buying my makeup at the Makeovershop

  • Graceful Mist

The product looks really nice but it`s so expensive. I can just use the money for skin care items.

    • True that! Haha

      • Graceful Mist

Hehe. The shimmer it gives is nice though.

  • This is so expensive and yet I can’t seem to find anything special about it. To me it’s just a simple palette with three different shades. Hahaha. Maybe because I’m not aware of this brand. I honestly find it confusing but I think it’s very flexible to use – as a highlighter, eye-shadow, setting powder and for contouring.

    • Yes you can use it that way too.

  • Wwaah Imagine how many months I am waiting for my palette! I hope I’ll like it too since I’m reading mixed reviews, or else, I will cry lol

    • Aww.. you still don’t have your palette yet??
I’m sure you’re going to love it

  • Kleah

This is way too expensive, but very good in quality hehe but thank you for the product review. I always read your blog and because of you I am inspired to buy more make up and do giveaways as well. Thank you so much. More reviews to come and I will recommend your blog to my sisters because they love make up’s too

    • Aww, thanks Kleah!

  • Not going anywhere near this product for now. Parang ang advanced kasi, not to mention ang advanced din ng price. Hahaha. I hope to get my contouring skills down pat first before I can even start to seriously consider how the subtle differences in color of highlighting powders can enhance the visage. Practice practice muna. :))

    • That’s a good choice! Thanks!

  • Yesha

Kinda expensive but I heard good feedback about this. I think there are dupes of this which is way affordable but it’s also nice to have this in your makeup collection.

Thanks for the review I might buy one soon *winks

  • i also do the same and overlay them on top of each other. although i mostly use dim light & radiant light. incandescent light is strangely grayish on my skintone but i can see why you like it, your skin is light, not to mention flawless!

  • The first time I saw it I immediately thought “can this be used as a highlighter when contouring?” and yes it was answered thank you! I thought it was an eyeshadow palette. Ang complicated talaga mag make-up ang daming kung ano ano! I don’t know what I’ll do if there are no beauty bloggers who’ll critically review these items because i find it expensive to attend workshops. This is sooo expensive by the way, to think that you can go with your makeup routine without it.

    • Yes that’s why you really have to think about whether you want to buy it or not.

  • Ana Razon

I like the shades because i want my make up to be simple but its too expensive. I’d rather look for another palette that i can afford. Hehe; )

  • Dane Salazar

The product, upon seeing it, definitely looks luxurious, and I wasn’t wrong upon reading the indicated price. Sorry, but this is not my thing… I’m not into burning my pocket with makeup purchases. I prefer drugstore brands.

  • Rae

You already know what my thoughts are regarding this product. I should’ve just gotten one of the individual ones — diffused light.

Anyway, I agree with your recommendation to read a lot, and put more weight on reviews from people who, in general, like the same things you do.
