Weekly Raves #6: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette
Hi loves! Before I proceed with this review, I just wanna thank you for being ever so supportive. I’ve been getting messages in my social media that I’ve been inspiring you with my videos & blogs and that’s just the sweetest thing ever. You guys inspire me to blog and I wont be here without you, so THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Now before I get totally emotional, let us now proceed with my weekly raves #6: the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette.
Product Description/Claims according to Hourglass Cosmetics
Create your perfect light with this palette featuring three shades of Ambient Lighting Powder. Each of the high-tech, soft-focus finishing powders recreates an exquisitely flattering light source. The powders can be applied individually or layered to imbue skin with a multidimensional glow.
Honestly, even up to this moment, I’m not really sure about reviewing this product. It’s because most people have different ways of using this palette. As mentioned in the product’s description, each shade can be used either individually or all together, and some use it depending on their shade. As for me, I use all of them in a single look, one shade for a specific area of my face then I layer them all together. I know it’s kinda confusing, but I’ll explain later.
This palette has a simple, yet elegant, mirrored packaging. It has a decent-sized mirror but I still find it pretty useless since horizontal mirrors are only effective if you’re going to do your eye makeup. My issue towards Hourglass packaging as always is that, despite that it’s a high end product, their compacts do not include a pouch for protection. That pouch can protect your palette from scratches, dust or from breakage (in case you’re a klutz like me).
This product has the same texture as their blushes (click here to check out my review of one of their blushes) only each shade has a different finish from the other. This one is a bit powdery though. I’m not sure if it’s because of the brushes that I use but sometimes I find myself seeing a lot of excess product at the packaging and at my dressing table. I also noticed a hint of scent but it’s not as noticeable compared to their blushes.
Now as for the shades and how I use it…
Dim Light, per the website is a neutral peach beige powder that blurs imperfections and highlights a radiant complexion with the perfect balance of warm and cool tones. I use it as my finishing powder. It just gives me that beautiful “lit-from-within-glow”. I also think that it lives up to its claims that it blurs out imperfections.
Incandescent Light, per the website is an opalescent pearl powder that brightens the complexion with a celestial glow. It is an exclusive shade that you can only find here in this palette, and I believe that it is meant for highlighting. I love this shade because it’s not quite “metallic-y” compared to my other highlighters. I use this at the high points of my cheeks, down the bridge of my nose, and in my cupid’s bow. It’s not an overly-exaggerated highlighter and those people with oily skin will surely appreciate this highlighter as well.
Radiant Light, per the website, is a sun-kissed golden beige that enhances the overall complexion with believable, subtle warmth, and also extends a summer glow.. I use this on top of my contour. It gives me that beautiful warm glow but it doesn’t give my matte contour a shimmery finish that makes it look like “why not just use a shimmery bronzer to contour, duh?”. It just makes the contour blending a bit more flawless, if that makes any sense.
So those are my thoughts regarding this product. I know it’s kinda confusing which is why I was on the fence about reviewing this but if you have questions, feel free to ask. Like I said, I love this product to bits and I can’t get enough of it. I just can’t use it every time though because it’s expensive.

Now as for recommendations or if you’re asking me if I recommend this palette, uhm.. sure, if you really want it then go for it. Just make sure that you think about it really because it is indeed an investment, and Php 3, 200 is no joke. Some people I know loved this, and some people hated it without thinking twice. Read lots of reviews. Just remember that you can go with your makeup routine without this one.
Anyway, how about you? What do you think about this product? Do you have questions about this palette? Let me know.
