Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in ‘Radiant Magenta’ – Review, Photos & Swatches

Hi loves! Here’s another blush review for you. I am on a roll for reviewing blushes these days. Remember when I was addicted to lippies? Well, I’m now addicted to blushes. You can quote me on that. Anyway, for this week’s review, I have for you a high-end, very raved about product. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in ‘Radiant Magenta’

Discover a new way to blush: This groundbreaking hybrid combines the customized lighting effects of Ambient Lighting Powder with a spectrum of breathtakingly modern hues. The result is a natural radiant finish with seamless, soft-focus and buildable color.
• Unlike traditional blush, which tends to be flat, Ambient Lighting Blush uses Photoluminescent Technology to exhibit depth and dimension.
• The airy, lightweight powders contain optically transparent particles that amplify the colors to a multi-dimensional level—effectively reinventing the way you view blush.
• The hand-made powders are formulated using an advanced miscelare technique—which means “to mix” in Italian—creating the perfect balance of pigment and powder, and no two look alike.
• The cutting-edge formula means that its full potential is only displayed on application.

The packaging of this one is indeed very classy and it feels very luxurious. The blush comes in a metallic gold compact with a decent-sized mirror. What I was looking for when I got this was actually a pouch. I don’t have a high end blush yet, but from what I saw with other high end brands, their blushes came with a pouch. The pouch prevents the compact from getting scratched or at least protects the blush if in case you’re a bit clumsy (like me). Nevertheless, I am still in love with the packaging, as I’ve mentioned, the product looks so luxurious and it’s something that you would love to take out on your kikay kit and flaunt while you’re retouching your makeup.

Radiant Magenta, according to the Hourglass Website is “A golden fuchsia blush combined with Radiant Light for a summer glow.”. I have to agree. When swatched individually, the ‘Magenta/Fuchsia’ shade is a really beautiful vibrant fuchsia pink, with tiny specs of glitter. The ‘Radiant Light’ shade, when swatched individually, is more of like a peachy-golden shade with tiny specs of glitter. Now, when swatched together, both of these shades create a beautiful peachy shade that creates the most beautiful finish. I prefer applying this with a dense, angled blush. I use my ever-favorite Marionnaud Angled Blush Brush No. 3.

This blush is nicely pigmented. It’s a bit sheer, but it’s definitely buildable. It doesn’t look cakey when layered. This blush has a buttery smooth consistency and it’s very finely milled. It’s very easy to apply and blend and it doesn’t settle on to the dry parts of my face. The tiny specs of glitter I’ve mentioned earlier, turns into this beautiful sheen that gives your skin this beautiful, luminous glow.

This blush lasted on me for more than six hours, and then it started to fade. Do keep in mind though, that I was staying in an air-conditioned room.

Truth be told, I never thought that this product smelled like anything until I stuck my nose just to smell it for this review. Then I found out that it kinda smelled weird. I asked my mama how it smelled like and she said that it smelled like cookies. I disagree. I think it smelled like an herbal supplement, or something. It’s not bad. You won’t really notice it, until you stick your nose right in the pan and you wont smell it either when you apply it so it doesn’t bother me.

If this wasn’t as pricey, I would rate it a FIVE. I love this blush and I can’t get enough of it, but let’s face it. It’s expensive. Do I recommend it? Yes. Do you need it? No. There are a lot of blushes out there which aren’t as pricey, that can probably give you the same results that this blush can give you. What I love about this blush is the look it gives me when I already have it on. It makes my face look fresh and youthful. I don’t know if that’s just psychological or it’s just the “high” of using a high-end product, but nevertheless, the ‘glow’ that this blush provides is pretty hard to find.
YES – If you love blushes like I do, and if you care about their “finishes” when you have them on.
NO – If you’re just starting out in makeup and you just want the basics. You don’t need this. Go spend your PhP 1,600 to drugstore makeup. You’ll be much happier.
Probably Not
I’m not going to say No right away. I liked Radiant Magenta and even though at the moment I have no plans of buying any more shades, who knows.

  • I have been reading about this range of blushes lately (and their luminizers) which seemed to be very popular now. I must confess, they are very tempting, but in the same time a little bit pricey and I think you can splurge on another high-end blush for the same amount of money.
    I enjoyed reading your review!

    • Yes the are a bit pricey and there are a lot of other blushes which are the same price but I really wanted to try this one and see what the hype is all about

I also want to have this blush but I get mixed feedback. I’m happy you like this blush, it’s freakin 1,600 it should really be worth it! It’s pretty on you.

  • Really classy packaging and I love the shade, the metallic tone looks fab! I love your review on this and when I read “pricey”, I was like “how pricey?”, then I saw the price and I was like “OH. TOO MUCH!” Haha! But it’s really nice and I kinda like sheer blushes; the finish seems perfect to me. And it looks really good on you; it does have a certain glow on your face too!

  • really love the new blog layout!!! I’ve been lusting over the hourglass ambient palette for some time. but I’ve read a few reviews that it isn’t all that considering the hefty price tag. Don’t get me wrong, I’d still love to have one though. hehehe Radiant Magenta looks great

Super love your blog! It’s honest, funny and practical…”Do I recommend it? Yes. Do you need it? No. There are a lot of blushes out there which aren’t as pricey”

  • browsing your older posts and saw this, I’ve been wondering and wanting to try these kind of blushes/bronzers those with that weird color or mixture (i don’t know what to call that i just find it amusing) Do you prefer that (mixed)? or not (separated, like see attached photo) and why? (sorry for asking a lot of questions!)

  • I like the marble effect of these blushes on the packaging. And the swatch on your hand is like the perfect shade that I would want to have as a blush.
I’m now getting curious about this brand because it’s really expensive.

  • Mickey Angel Cortez

Oh-ow. These blushes are too pricey for me! It will be so impractical for me to splurge a lot just for a single blush. For me, the cons outweigh the pros here. I like Max Factor blush better.
