First let’s start off with the packaging – Can I just say ‘Wow’?! Well, Milani’s packaging has always been nifty considering that it is still a drugstore product. However, being that it is a drugstore product, their product’s packaging is just superb and oh so creative! These babies’ packaging are anything but plain. They’re sleek, elegant and the entire tube makes it look like they’re not drugstore lip products but they’re from a mid-range to high-end makeup brands. They come in a gold tube with their brand at the side and the corresponding color & name at the bottom. I find this really convenient since I layer my lip products horizontally in my makeup stash so this alone is a plus for me.

Now let’s talk about their shades, shall we?
(12) Flamingo Pose – Flamingo Pose is a cream finish and what Milani Cosmetics would describe as a “Flamingo Coral”. I would describe this color as a bright coral lip color with a lot of pink into it. I have a lot of pinks and I have a number of coral, peach & orange shades in my collection but nothing in comparison to this one. This is a ‘what you see is what you get’ type of lip product. It stays true to the swatches & the color that you see from the tube. It’s highly pigmented and it offers full on coverage.
(14) Rose Hip – Rose Hip is a “hot pink” lipstick (according to Milani Cosmetics) with a cream finish. Do you think they got this right? Yeah, I don’t think so too. (Kidding). Anyway, a lot of people dubbed this color as a dupe of the famous Mac Candy Yum Yum. If you ask me, I think it’s a cross between Mac CYY and Mac’s Show Orchid (swatches here). This color also stays true to the tube. It’s highly pigmented & offers full on coverage as well.
Application – Since both lip colors are really pigmented, applying them can be a bit tricky and messy at the same time. If you want to preempt any makeup mishaps, then applying this product with a lip brush or a lip liner will definitely do the trick. As for me, the only lip color I’ve had a problem applying was “(12) Flamingo Pose”“. It went on smoothly, of course, however, for some reason I can’t apply it properly straight from the tube. I had to use a lip brush in order for me to stay within my lip lines. “(14) Rose Hip” went on smoothly like a breeze, I applied it straight from the tube and nothing went wrong. Both colors are very buildable, however, take my word for it when I tell you that one layer is enough.
Performance – So far, aside from the tiny *bump* (I would say bump since I consider it a no biggie, seriously) I’ve had with regards to applying the shade #12, I gotta say, I love these lipsticks. They lasted approximately 5 hours on my lips and even when they were about to fade, they stained my lips for more than an hour. Also, both lip colors did not highlight nor did they settle at the fine lines of my lips (Note that I applied a lip balm like I always do before applying any other lip product). I did not experience any feathering or bleeding. Both offered full on coverage but they felt really light on my lips. I also didn’t feel like I needed to reapply my lip balm on top, since I felt that these lippies were quite moisturizing as well.
Smell/Scent – Okay, another *bump* here.. Or should I say bummer? If you’re easily overwhelmed or overthrown by scented makeup products, then these lippies are not for you. Upon opening the tube, (especially the shade (#12)) it smelled very fruity. Overwhelmingly fruity. Since they’re sealed, and they haven’t been opened yet (obviously) the smell is pretty overwhelming. However, as you use and you open them frequently, the scent fades gradually into an “acceptable” watermelon scent. By “acceptable” I mean, it’s there, you can smell it, but it’s not overwhelming unlike when it was brand new. This scent however disappears/fades once you apply it onto your lips. Therefore, if you’re against scented makeup products, then again, this isn’t for you. Otherwise, feel free to try out other shades from this line as well. (I believe they offer 27 shades/color selection from this line)

Overall, I really am in love with these lip products. I find them fitting especially this summer. These colors are just so vibrant that all you need is a brow powder, a mascara and you’re good to go! I don’t mind the scent, seriously, despite how overwhelming they are. Honestly when I first smelled them I thought they smelled like cucumbers, HAH! But I had to smell them over and over again in order to get it right and when I went online to confirm my suspicions, my second guess was the right one. It smelled like watermelons. I wish Milani would consider getting rid of the scent though. I know a lot of makeup junkies will love this product more if these were unscented. Or maybe make it a little less obvious, perhaps?
Despite the few “bumps” I’ve enumerated, I think this product is still worth the moolah and worth repurchasing! I would love to try their plums and berries collection!
This is my first time showing my new haircut in my blog and I feel silly getting this kind of hair cut -_-;
I’m in a love and hate relationship with it. I have to style it everytime I go out. Ggggrrr.. >.<
So, those are my take regarding the Milani Color Statement lipsticks. Honestly, I think that they are very comparable if not better than the Maybelline Vivids, and at the same time they are a bit underrated. I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me. But anyway, I hope you find this review helpful and if you have any questions, concerns, whatever, let me know! Would love to hear from you guys!
