First, let’s start with the packaging. Just like all of the Maybelline Color Sensational lip products, it comes with a silver tube with a transparent cap. The Vivids line however, comes with a transparent, neon red-orange cap, which I think is pretty appropriate, since they’re trying to imply that all of their shades are bright, bold and fun. Packaging-wise, I have nothing against it, I like the color, I’ve always been a fan of neon colors, I remember my mama buying me neon smileys & transparent neon bags, so I’m all for it, so in terms of packaging, I give this product an A.

Now as for the shades – Brazen Berry reminds me of grapes. Not the fruit, but the ones from the cartoons (the vibrant purple illustration of grapes, lol). Straight from the tube, it may look like dark, intimidating purple, but when applied, it looks like a bright semi-opaque neon-purple, with a bit of a glossy finish. In terms of the shade being wearable, I’d day yes. You can definitely pull it off. It’s not as intimidating as it looks like. You can also sheer it out and blend it towards the corner of your lips so that it wont appear as bright or as bold.
Vivid Rose is more of a dark, hot pink with a hint of red into it. Of all the pink/hot pink lipsticks that I have in my stash, I have nothing similar to this one. Vivid Rose is a really bright, fun color perfect for Summer. In this case, what you see from the tube is what you get upon application. It gives you a bright, semi-opaque rosy, hot pink lips with a slight glossy finish. Most girls who are fond of wearing fun, bright, hot pink lip colors wont have a problem wearing this. If you’re not one of them, however, just like before, you can simply sheer it out, and blend it outwards.
Now with regards to applying these lip products – lets start with Brazen Berry – I’ve had a bit of a tough time applying this one. At first use (when I first received the package), it went on smoothly and evenly. However, when I was already doing a product review, then that’s where the dilemma started. It went patchy on some areas, while some areas were a bit sheerer than the rest of my lips. I tried to use a lip brush to even out the application but that didn’t help. The photo below was like my 3rd application, if I’m not mistaken. Vivid Rose, however, glided on beautifully like a breeze. I’m not suggesting you do this without a mirror because it’s a very pigmented lip color and you don’t want to mess it up. But it went on evenly and smoothly I didn’t have any problem with it at all.
In terms of performance, both did not disappoint. Although I would like to take note that a minute prior to applying both lip colors, I had to prime my lips with a lip balm. Both shades did not emphasize nor did they settle in the fine lines of my lips. I did not experience any bleeding or feathering. Both are quite moisturizing, perhaps due to the honey nectar formula, so it’s not as drying as one would expect. Both lasted on me for nearly five hours (Vivid Rose stained my lips for more than an hour while Brazen Berry faded evenly).
With regards to smell/scent, it has a faint candy-like smell which is pretty common to the Maybelline Color Sensational line. It’s not really overwhelming, and I won’t go as far as calling it as “plastic-ky” because trust me, I’ve smelled a few that’s far worse. But to those who are not fond with scented makeups (even the light scented ones), this might be an issue for you.

Overall, I am so in love with these lip products, I’ll definitely go back and purchase some of the other shades that I’m currently eying on (Shocking Coral, Pink Pop, Electric Orange, Hot Plum & Fuchsia Flash). I’ve totally gone crazy and lifted my no makeup ban that I never implemented to myself, lol.
If you’re looking for a good quality, with a Mac-like pigmentation, I suggest you grab yourself a shade or two. It’s affordable and its something that wont require you to touch up your lipstick every thirty minutes. It’s very appropriate here in our country, especially now that it’s Summer.
Will in fact be buying more shades soon!
So those are my thoughts or my take regarding the Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in Brazen Berry & Vivid Rose. I really like them and I seriously hope that Maybelline Philippines will bring this line here in our country because although it’ll be a lot more expensive, for sure, it would still be great to see the 10 shades in person and compare the swatches side by side (Hah! Dream on, Yette).
How about you guys? What do you think about this lipstick? Are you a lipstick junkie like me? Do you own a shade or two from the the Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids line? What’s your fave lippie? Let me know!
