Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base & Sun Club Glamour To Go Eyeshadow Palette- 2 in 1 Review
Here’s a little info about the brand…
Essence Quality – since its launch in 2002, essence stands for trendy and high quality cosmetics at a sensational low price. How can essence ensure the quality of its products at such low sales prices?
The quality of our products is our top priority!
This principle applies to the selection of our production plants as well as for all manufacturing process steps from the very beginning until the completion of our final products. We reveal more on the high quality demands of essence here:
Quality instead of advertising spendings
The essence brand does without costly advertisements using models or celebrities, expensive tv spots or print ads in magazines. instead, essence invests in the development of premium products at a consistently high level of quality.
If you saw my instagram post regarding the Essence kiosk that was placed at the SM near our place, what you didn’t see that photo was the major haul I did after taking that pic. (“Of course you did a haul, Yette! Duh!). But anyway, if you want to see a sneak peek of the items that I got, you can click here. Anyway, what I liked about Essence is that they practically have everything, from Eyeshadow bases, to creams, to shimmery & matte bronzers, everything! Unlike most foreign drugstore brands here in the Philippines, we don’t even get half of their products! (ie Maybelline, Revlon, Covergirl, etc). Anyway, I’m getting way off topic.
Just a bit of warning, since this is a 2 in 1 review, this may be longer than usual..
So first up, is the I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base
Upon seeing loads of what Essence had to offer, I grabbed this one. I wanted to know if this is something comparable or at least close to the famous Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Also, I wanted to know if there’s a drugstore eye primer that can actually make my eyeshadow last for more than 2 hours. ELF is good, but after two hours, the colors just fade, especially during this weather.
According to Essence:
The I love stage – eyeshadow base has to get on stage! It can be applied diversely either as primer for concealers or eye shadows. The creamy texture does not crease, makes the eye shadow last longer and appear much more color intensive. For an even eye make-up waiting for its gig on stage!
First let’s get to the packaging. The entire product is housed in a clear, sturdy glass, and it comes with a doe-foot applicator. In my opinion, the item’s presentation did not make the product feel like it’s meant for a specific age. I like the rough, edgy font that the “I LOVE” line has. Also, the clear glass made it look like it’s from a mid-range makeup brand (if that makes any sense).
The doe-foot applicator is not necessarily a bad thing. I like my eyeshadow primers kinda like that way. Although, some may find this as a minus, especially those who are keen on hygiene stuff. I understand that, because, hey, you wouldn’t want to keep putting back the applicator after you’ve already used it, I mean, for some, it’s definitely unhygienic, and I totally get that. But we’re talking about eyelids, I would feel the same way if we’re talking about lip products, because I sometimes feel that way regarding lip gloss products.
Anyway, the only issue I have with this one is that, you don’t get to empty the entire thing. Though it’s definitely inexpensive, you sure would like to get your money’s worth. You’re probably on your way to being halfway through the entire tube when you realize that you can’t even scrape the bottom of the tube. But let’s hope that it wont come to that scenario.

What I also love about this eyeshadow base is that it is yellow-toned and it creates a smooth surface with a matte finish which is good enough for covering some redness and exposed veins in our eyelids. I also noticed a mild tacky feeling upon application, which I believe is a good thing, because I think that tacky feeling contributes something to the eyeshadow base’s adhesiveness.
When used with a different eyeshadow brand, (I used ELF’s Butternut quad) my entire eye look lasted for nearly six(6) hours. There was, however, a bit of fading, the color was no longer that crisp, but I didn’t see/notice any creasing. When used with the Essence eyeshadow brand, however, it also lasted nearly six(6) hours, but the lighter colors faded a lot faster, and I did experience some creasing. I don’t know if it has anything to with the primer or with the eyeshadow itself, nevertheless, you will see more about the Essence eyeshadow palette I used when I review it. Just scroll down below
Now we go to the eyeshadow palette : Essence Sun Club Glamour To Go Eyeshadow Palette in 01 South Beach
I know I have a lot of eyeshadow palettes already, but I bought this palette for two reasons: (1) For blog review (2) I love the blues in this palette. Now here’s what Essence says about this palette:
Can life get more beautiful than this? Oh yes! With the new eyeshadow palettes by essence sun club. They each contain eight gorgeous new colors for ultimate glamour and style. Thanks to the practical mini-format, they are a loyal companion when you’re on-the-go, too! trendy colors from yellow to orange and blue as well as expressive contrasting colors in black, grey and brown are sure to give any look the desired wow-effect.
In terms of packaging, unlike the “I Love” line from Essence, the packaging of Sun Club Glamour To Go Eyeshadow Palette somehow reflects that this particular product is for teens or someone younger than me, lol. But anyway, I don’t care. The packaging is sturdy, it’s made out of plastic, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to give out any time soon. Also, despite the silhouettes, I still like it, it doesn’t look like an ordinary drugstore eyeshadow palette. At least to me, it doesn’t.
Just like any typical eyeshadow palette, it comes with a dual-ended eyeshadow applicator. The other end is a sponge while the other is a brush. The applicator looks like it wont give out as well, it’s sturdy, so I think you can use it if you’re on the go. Both ends are very soft as well. The compact, however, does not include a decent-sized mirror. It does have a mirror, but it is located where you put your applicator, which means that it’s basically useless.

With regard to this palette (01 South Beach), I love how the name practically summarizes all of the colors that you would expect to see on a beach. I like all of the browns, the blues, even the golden yellow. Now as for the formula, texture, etc. Here are the finger swatches that I did using all of the shades that can be found in this palette, with and without the I Love Stage eyeshadow base.
As you can see, judging from the finger swatches that I made, the darker, brighter shades are the ones that show up more. None of these eyeshadows are matte by the way, all of them are on the shimmery side, but I didn’t encounter any fall outs. They’re not that powdery as well, but as for the color pay off, the lighter ones barely have any. The blues and the darker brown, however, have a good color pay off, and I like how it shows up in my eye lids.
In terms of color pay off, judging from the swatches I made, it doesn’t really make that much difference whether you apply an eyeshadow base or not. It all comes down to longevity. I didn’t test these eyshadows with out the eyeshadow base, so I stand by with what I’ve said. This eyeshadow lasted for nearly six(6) hours, however, the lighter colors did fade a bit faster than the other colors, and I did encounter a bit of creasing. I am not entirely sure whether it has anything to do with the base or the eyeshadows it self. Regardless, that’s just what I experienced from using both products.

I really can’t say anything bad about this eyeshadow base. I love it. I should give this a 5-star rating, if only I’ll be able to get the entire product when it’s about to be empty. Regardless, I really think that this is a good drugstore eyeshadow primer. Compared to what we have in our stores now, I think this provides a longer staying power to your everyday eye look, with a cheaper price tag.
I’d like to think that getting eight(8) shades for approximately PhP 200 is a good bargain, however, due to the color pay off of the lighter colors, I don’t think this is something that I would recommend for those who are on a tight budget. If you like wearing blue eyeshadows, then maybe. But if not, then try a different line from Essence then. However, being that they are somehow buildable, makes me like them a bit more. I like that they are not powdery or chalky. But for me, I still like it as an everyday wear, with a pop of color, perfect for Spring/Summer.
Eyeshadow base – Yes. Definitely a good find and worth the money.
Eyeshadow palette – I don’t know.
So those are all of my thoughts regarding the products: Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base & Sun Club Glamour To Go Eyeshadow Palette.
