Mac Matte Lipstick in Candy Yum Yum – Photos, Swatches & Review
Those were the words that kept running on and on in my mind when my order was finalized. And even then, I kept on wishing to finally receive my order. Then after a few days or so, I finally got it! I used it the day after when I paid our utility bills. I usually don’t use my MAC lippies just for running errands, but I was so excited using it, I just had to try it. Anyway, being that it was a matte lipstick, it was the shade that made me really love it, not exactly the ‘feel’. I mean, sure I’ve encountered more than a few matte lipsticks in my makeup life, but this is actually my first matte lipstick from MAC. Anyway, like all matte lippies, this tends to dry out my lips a few minutes after application. However, I don’t think that it’s because of the lipstick. I think that it’s just because my lips are REALLY dry these days.
Mac Matte Lipstick in Candy Yum Yum is more of a bright, neon pink lipstick, which some may find a bit harder to wear especially if they’re into neutrals. I find this color to be a bit shocking while at the same time cute. According to some reviews that I’ve read prior to buying my own, this was a part of MAC’s previous limited edition. I wasn’t really a MAC person back then, as some of you may know, MAC Rebel was my very first MAC lipstick or better yet, makeup and that wasn’t very long ago. Therefore when I saw this shade, I went really crazy and I even told my mama that I need it, BADLY!

Since this is a matte finish and I have really dry lips, I find that it tends to dry out my lips a few minutes after application. Although it’s not the most hydrating lip product, I still don’t like applying lip balm prior to applying this one. CYY is creamy enough so it glides on smoothly. I kinda believe that wearing a lip balm will just emphasize all the fine lines of my lips that’s why I seldom wear one unless I really have too. I also like this one because it’s very opaque. One layer of this lipstick can already provide a good amount of coverage. Though I am a fan of retouching my lipstick, when I tried this out for review, and also when I went out with my family, I find that it stayed approximately 6 hours without retouching. I also like the fact that it stains my lips even if I’m not wearing any of it anymore.

From the pictures, it’s not really that different whether I apply a lip balm or not. But to be honest, it’s more of a feeling really. Maybe because the lipstick is really creamy, that’s why I prefer not to apply a lip balm prior to applying this one. Therefore, if you have uber dry lips like mine, I suggest you exfoliate your lips first.
With regard to “dupes”, I’m afraid I don’t have much to offer you guys. Coming from my stash, I thought that the Model’s Own Hyperbrite Matte Lipstick in Annalise’s Pink was a spot-on dupe or at least similar, but Mac CYY was a lot more ‘cooler’ than Annalise’s Pink. Annalise’s Pink is also a tad bit lighter, but I would also still consider this a neon pink, only brighter/lighter/warmer. I also thought that MAC Show Orchid was similar to this one, but apparently, Show Orchid was a lot more reflective, darker and ‘shinier’ than Mac CYY.
To summarize, here are my thoughts about Mac Matte Lipstick in Candy Yum Yum
| Sleek, Sturdy packaging
Nice color pay off
Glides on smoothly on my lips
Lasts approximately up to six hours
Doesn’t have any noticeable taste
Already in the permanent line
| Matte finish (Some people are not very fond of matte lipsticks)
Tends to dry out my lips a few minutes after application
Can emphasize the crevices of your lips
Not yet available here in the Philippines (As far as I know)
Only available at MacCosmetics.com and other online stores such as CareFree Shopper
Overall, I really love this lip color. If you’ve seen my lipstick collection you’ll find that I’m really fond of loud, shocking (and even vampy) lip colors, and I’m so glad I got this one. I guess I’ll just have to exfoliate and moisturize my (uber) dry lips like crazy in order to pull this one off. But other than that, as I’ve mentioned, I’m glad I finally found my own Candy Yum Yum!
So those are my two cents about Mac Matte Lipstick in Candy Yum Yum. I hope you find it helpful if in case you’re contemplating on whether or not to buy the said product. My advice is, if you’re into bright, neon pinks and you’re not afraid to splurge, then go for this one. You can also go for Pink Pidgeon, (although I believe that’s a limited edition. I was supposed to buy that or Party Parrot as well, but that’s sold out everywhere.. I’m not really sure, you can google them for details. But if I have ’em you’ll know ) Girl About Town, Lickable, Show Orchid or OCC Liptar in ‘Nylon’. But since I’m so in love with this one, I would totally push you to go get this one instead/first. If you love pinks, you’ll never regret buying this one. This is definitely worth the purchase.
How about you guys? Do you love these kinds of lip colors? Do you like attention-grabbling lip colors? Do you own one? Do you know one that resembles Candy Yum Yum? Let me know! See you in my next entry!
